This is a 2-hour (6 PM - 8 PM) 20 round course for those who:

  • Have no prior firearms experience
  • Are completely new to firearms fundamentals and maintenance
  • Are first-time gun owners

This course will take place at The Firing Pin, an indoor range located at 8240 Buffalo Rd, Bergen, NY 14416.

Our Carbine Foundations Course will introduce the brand-new carbine owner to the bare bones basics of owning, maintaining, and shooting a carbine. Instruction will primarily occur in a classroom setting, be followed by dry fire practice, and close with a limited live fire session.

This course is NOT intended to take the place of a bona fide carbine mechanics course that spends 6+ hours going over marksmanship fundamentals and related topics in detail. Our Carbine Foundations Course is simply meant to teach the brand-new carbine owner the ground-level basics of their fist self-defense tool so they can safely attend an extended carbine mechanics/marksmanship fundamentals course at a later date to develop a solid base of proficiency.

We will address:

  • The four rules of firearms safety
  • Carbine use, anatomy, and manipulation
  • Carbine maintenance and ammunition types
  • Fundamentals of marksmanship
  • Other related concepts and skills

This course of instruction will last 2 hours and require 20 rounds of carbine ammunition. To prolong the safe service life of our indoor range and target system, please do not bring green-tip, tracer, explosive, and/or armor piercing ammunition to this course.

You must have:

  • A serviceable AR pattern carbine
  • The instruction booklet/safety manual that came with your carbine (if available)
  • 20 rounds of carbine ammunition that matches the caliber of carbine you intend to shoot at the end of the course (again, please do not bring green-tip, tracer, explosive, and/or armor piercing ammunition to this course)
  • Hearing and eye protection (electronic hearing protection preferred so you can hear range commands)
  • Appropriate footwear and attire for indoor range use
  • An open heart and mind

Registration & Payment:

All courses of instruction require pre-payment at the time of registration. Because student space is limited, courses are filled on a first come, first paid basis. Should First Line Defense cancel this course, our staff will contact you to determine if you desire a full refund of your payment or rescheduling for a different date/time. Otherwise, your payment is 100% NON-refundable.

If you are worried about potential exposure to COVID-1984 and expecting a full refund to avoid contact with whatever the “deadly” variant du jour happens to be, please do NOT register for instruction with us. Fear of COVID-1984 is not a valid reason for a refund of any kind. Providing such a refund would not be healthy for our business and would hamper the effective learning environment we strive to create in which individuals are comfortable being around one another.

Expansion of the martial culture must continue and it’s your decision to participate or not. See you out there.
